On Sunday 14 February at 16.00, the visual arts association Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg will present a Dutch-language talk by Jan Hoet at De Vleeshal (on Markt Square in Middelburg).

Jan Hoet

Jan Hoet (b. 1936, Leuven) will discuss the role of art as a bridge between other disciplines, such as architecture and design. This is not the first time he has figured in the history of De Vleeshal. In 1984 he curated an exhibition at De Vleeshal and Middelburg Abbey: The Ghent collection, a selection of works from the Ghent Museum for Contemporary Art (now known as the S.M.A.K.), which was founded by Hoet himself.

In the international art world, Jan Hoet has earned special recognition. In 1986, he organized the project Chambres d’amis in Ghent, and in 1992 he was the curator of Documenta IX in Kassel. From 2003 to 2008, he was the artistic director of the MARTa museum in the German town of Herford.

This is the first talk in a series planned for this year by the Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg. The next one will be given by Middelburg art connoisseur and gallery owner Joost Bakker on Sunday 7 March at 16.00, in connection with the exhibition Works from the Collection of De Vleeshal 02, opening on 20 February at De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal. Bakker will speak about Marlow Moss (1889-1958), in a talk entitled The Female Mondrian and the Zeeland Connection.

The talks are free and will be given in Dutch. No reservations are required.
