Ana Maria Tavares’ exhibition Numinoso at the Kabinetten van De Vleeshal ran concurrently with her Middelburg Airport Lounge with Parede Niemeyer at De Vleeshal.

Freely translated, Numinoso means: immaterial object of worship. Within the context of Ana Maria Tavares’ same titled exhibition at De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal N_Numinoso_ also stood for sublime art as the opposite of physical, commercial reality: two worlds brought face to face in the work.
The words displayed as silver mirages on the walls of De Kabinetten – such as ‘credit card’, ‘sparkling water’, ‘sexo’ (sex), ‘lexotan’ (a sleeping pill) – referred to the means by which we attempt to achieve a state of disengagement, in order to escape from the pressures of everyday life. Through the glow of sex or sleeping pills, through travel, through luxury and consumerism – or through art.
