Bulgarian artist Nedko Solakov created A Quiz especially for De Vleeshal. He transformed the Gothic hall into a `quiz set`, where visitors were challenged to re-examine their surroundings.

A Quiz explicitly invited its audience to examine De Vleeshal carefully and from unexpected angles. On entry, visitors were presented with their quiz question: what is the exact floor position of the four apex crowns in the hall`s Gothic ceiling? This question had been devised by one of De Vleeshal`s statues and confided to artist Nedko Solakov in a dream.

In search of the correct answer, visitors passed a number of `stations`: with floor plans or an example of a plumb line; the safe intended for completed questionnaires; and a display case holding the quiz prizes (four original drawings by Solakov; five kilos of meat from Middelburg`s best butcher; and a year`s free admission to De Vleeshal). This layout was both practical – designed to help quiz candidates forward – and autonomous and sculptural. A Quiz was simultaneously serious and ironic: entertainment, but also a reflection on our contemporary pursuit of pleasure.
