On October 3, we gathered for the opening of our fall exhibition by Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn, The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon, with a live performance by Tjaka Tomas. Local and organic refreshments were served by Restaurant Vert.

With this exhibition, Vleeshal reflected upon the marks and reverberations of war with a film and sculptural installation by Nguyễn. The artists’ first solo presentation in the Netherlands also brought local histories forward and was accompanied by ornamental brass grenades crafted in Zeeland in the aftermath of the Second World War.

The opening also launched the project Diam! - what silence carries by multidisciplinary artist Tjaka Tomas, a sonic exploration of space and the ongoing echoes lived between Zeeland and the Moluccas through docks, seascapes and ancestral rhythm.

The project is undertaken in partnership with Stichting Mae-Uku, and forms part of an AIR Zeeland residency, supported by the Province of Zeeland.
