Queer Cheer: Shedding Skin

On Saturday, September 6 it was time for another Queer Cheer: Vleeshal’s annual queer party! This edition was organized in collaboration with music venue De Spot in Middelburg.

Queer Cheer is a party especially for the queer community, where we celebrate all forms of identity by dancing together. Throughout the evening, there were drag performances every hour.

This time, Queer Cheer was inspired by the exhibition Red Celebration by Jae Pil Eun, that was on view at Vleeshal during the time of the part. In this exhibition, the artist uses the figure of the snake, symbolizing renewal, rebirth, and transformation through its shedding, as a central theme. This symbolism beautifully aligns with the essence of drag performances and the opportunity for guests to experiment with various (gender) expressions during the party. This edition of Queer Cheer was therefore titled Shedding Skin.
