Hanging out = having no obligations, no pressure to perform, no schedule, just being. Chatting, listening to music, staring, laughing about nothing in particular, sharing ideas that don’t have to result in anything. It’s resisting the pressure to always be productive
— Lizzy Mae, Member of Team V
In the first six months of 2026, the members of Team V- Manon Helsloot, Lizzy Mae van Leeuwen, Laura Malerba, Lotte ten Siethoff and Anne Fleur Swart- dived deeper into their desire for ‘life to last a bit longer’. A shared desire of the group to slow down in an exceedingly fast world, where it feels like you have to hop from one ‘meaningful’ experience to the next and where social media claims your time.
During the program, the Gothic space of Vleeshal transformed into a comfortable hangout, where visitors could gather, enjoy performances, meet up, play games, snack, express themselves creatively, or just exist.
Hang up, Come Hang! was an appeal for slowing down, for being able to hang out together. It was a space where young people could gather and exist together without requiring a purpose, a goal, or financial means.
The program was organized within the frame of An Impossible Sound, an exhibition by Rory Pilgrim that highlighted the choices faced by young people in regional areas.
This program was developed under the guidance of Ploen Mevis (Education, Participation, and Public Engagement at Vleeshal) and program coordinator Yusser al Obaidi.
Series
Team V is a group of young, diverse, and creative individuals with a passion for contemporary art. Each member has been selected for their motivation to learn about curatorial processes. They are coached and consulted by the Vleeshal team and learn about all aspects of working in a professional art institution. During the coming year, Team V will get a unique chance to look behind the scenes during Vleeshal’s projects while creating public programs and connecting with the full team, the artists, experts and a wide range of audience members. The members are Janna Dieleman, Agathe Ernandès, Donna van Kuilenburg, Zenana Ojha, Lucy de Theije and Sam Wigglesworth.
The Team V program connects education with artistic programming. By letting them organize their own public program in relation to Vleeshal exhibitions, we create space for young voices.
